Chemicals industry

The chemical industry is considered one of the key industries as it transforms crude oil into other usable products, which can serve as basic materials for many other industries. The chemicals industry provides other industries with the required chemicals for the production of more than 70,000 products. This is achieved through the transformation of raw materials into the required ones. The petrochemical units of refineries are part of the chemicals industry and convert crude oil into materials such as fuel, solvents, resin, and more. Plastics and polymers, especially polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene terephthalate, polystyrene, and polycarbonate, make up to 80% of the chemicals industry’s production. Chemicals are used in the production of many commodities and in many other areas, such as agriculture, construction, and industrial services. Most of the industrial customers are producers of plastic and rubber products, textiles, oil refinement, paper, pulp, and basic metals.
